COURSE INFORMATION

This course is suitable for students with a solid Elementary level of Spanish (i.e. have attended a full Elementary course, have learned how to use Present and Past Tenses, can understand basic conversations, respond to basic questions and engage in basic conversation. Students joining this course should have previously covered most of the content in our Elementary 2 course programme.

The level B1.1 refers to the European CEFR levels, and is similar to a UK post-GCSE level of Spanish.

In this course you will have the chance to…

  • Meet new people with a common interest and have fun learning together ☺
  • Have face to face conversations in Spanish with the tutor and classmates
  • Continue developing your listening, speaking, interacting, reading and writing skills
  • Expanding your knowledge of Spanish to an B1.1 level of the CEFR
  • Develop your speaking and interacting skills using a range of verb tenses.

By the end of the course you will have acquired the necessary language skills to understand a native speaker talking to you at a moderated native pace and about a range of topics. You will also be able to talk with confidence about those topics, using different verb tenses.

After completing this course, students will be able to continue with their Spanish studies by joining the Pre-Intermediate 2 course (B1.1 Part 2).

Week 1 – Introductions + revising Elementary Spanish

 

Week 2 – Unit 1: “Prohibido prohibir”

Week 3 – Unit 1: “Prohibido prohibir”

  • Saying that something used to be mandatory, allowed or not allowed (Imperfect Tense).
  • The world of work, expressing quantity and what we like the most/least about something:

 

Week 4 – Unit 1: “Prohibido prohibir”

  • Talking about customs, traditions and habits

 

Week 5 – Unit 2: “Volver a empezar”

  • Talking about habits using “Perífrasis verbales”
  • Talking about life experiences and changes

 

Week 6 – 2: “Volver a empezar”

  • Talking about our work experience, skills and saying when actions took place (i.e. since, from…):

 

Week 7 – Unit 2: “Volver a empezar”

  • Further practice to consolidate Weeks 5 and 6:

 

Week 8 – Unit 3: “Mañana”

  • Talking about the future using the Future Tense (Futuro Simple) and expressing probability.

 

Week 9 – Unit 3: “Mañana” 

  • Continuation Talking about the future using the Future Tense and expressing probability.
  • Expressing conditional sentences with “if + Present, Future Tense” and our opinion.

Terms & Conditions

  • There will be a maximum of 15 students in the class for large groups and 9 for small groups.
  • The course materials included in the price are any materials used in class (i.e. handouts, games, PDFs, Power Points, audio files and links to online activities), which will be sent by email as well.
  • Students will have to purchase a course book.
  • The course fee paid for this course will only be transferrable to future courses in exceptional circumstances.
  • Missed classes policy: if a student misses one or more classes, the teacher will send them an email with the learning materials used in class during those sessions so they can catch up at home. It is the student’s responsibility to catch up and continue attending their course. Missed lessons will not be refunded. Students who have missed a considerable number of lessons cannot automatically retake this lessons in the next term as the fee paid is for the current course only. However, the school may offer them the opportunity to retake the lessons if, after the enrolment period has finished, some of the places have not been filled.
  • Cancellation policy: if a student wishes to withdraw from the course, they must notify SCB by email. With 2 weeks notice or more, full refund. With 1 week notice, 50 % refund. With less than 1 week notice, no refund.
  • For the course to go ahead, a minimum of 6 students is required. If the week before the course starts a group has less than 6 students registered, that group may have to be cancelled and registered students will receive a full refund. Alternatively, the course can still go ahead, but the fee will have to be increased.
  • This course does not lead to an official certificate; students can register for official DELE or GCSE exams independently. SCB can advise on where to take the exams and offer additional exam preparation classes.
